Title of session
What is Coaching?
Are we united in our understanding of coaching?

Format of session
Lecture (one speaker, not so interactive)

Description of session: Content and Outcomes
Last year at the GCC2010, I spoke about how frequently clients who are referred to me who have had little, if any, exposure to coaching previously. Those who have heard of coaching often have a superficial or “skewed” understanding of what it really is and how it can have an impact on them both personally and professionally. As part of my Master’s degree, I have undertaken research on this topic, to try and gain a fuller understanding of why there is a public misperception about coaching.

In early 2011 I asked participants to undertake a survey based on my research. This lecture will talk through some of the outcomes and insight that this research has generated.

The lecture will end with a series of questions, designed to leave the participant to consider how they contribute to the lack of clarity within our industry.
