Speaker: Alison Skinkle

Alison Skinkle is a CTI (Coaches Training Institute) trained and nearly certified Co-active Life Coach, who works with people that are looking to live a life of purpose.

Drawing from her own experiences with living a purposeful life Alison can help you identify your passions and find ways to express that passion in a manner that is fulfilling and exciting.

After six years in the hospitality field Alison found that she did not enjoy this work, that all she could see in people were the negative traits. She decided she wanted to see people for who they really are and eventually found her way to Coaching. Now she gets to see people for their magnificence and for what they are capable of creating.

Alison believes that when we are living with purpose we are living in a way that best expresses who we are and that THIS is the key to happiness.

Alison’s nature of being is loving, gentle, trustworthy, dependable and always at your side. When she is living from this place she is living with her sense of purpose. Her expression of this is Life Coaching. Alison believes that this is the natural order of life; live from your being and do something that expresses that .

Alison teaches the power of choice. In every experience, we choose who we want to be and how we experience it and that no matter what we choose it is always the perfect experience in that moment.

Finally Alison believes in living from your heart. When you are doing this you are living your sense of purpose. It is this value that had her leave home at 18 for school, that led her to the other side of her country to find her spiritual self and that led her to the other side of the world from Canada to Australia in order to be with the man she loved.

Schedule is (almost) complete

After just one month of strenuous and hectic action we have filled a whole day with
  • twelve interesting interviews and talks with leaders and speakers
  • four breathing spaces, for just chatting with each other
  • three sessions for information, reports and reflection
All these events knit together the themes of "Dreams and Visions" and "Ignite the Flame of Passion for Change".

And now we have the Global Coach Conference Schedule. Just two spots remain waiting for the leaders / speakers to make final adjustments and commitments.
There may be some small changes in the next month.

Speaker: Marlena Field, PCC, CPCC

Marlena has always been fascinated by all aspects that create meaningful and sustainable change.

As an expert in using the body as a resource for change, Marlena created a body-centered coaching method, wrote a book and created CDs of live coaching demonstrations. She teaches a tele-training series and leads 3 day in-person retreats. Her techniques combine mindfulness and the body’s wisdom for the purpose of integrating body, mind and spirit. These help coaches and other helping professionals assist clients to access body information that creates a greater depth of insight, self-awareness and self-acceptance. She has expanded her body-centered coaching skills to include the embodiment of an abundant mindset. She recently completed a self-coaching journal titled “Being Abundant: a guidebook for your journey”.

Her websites are www.BodyMindSpiritCoaching.com and www.ReflectivePresence.com

"Ignite the Flame by Using the Body as a Resource for Change"

Speaker: Marlena Field, PCC, CPCC

Coaches often say to me, “I am always in my head” and that it interferes with their ability and confidence to include the wisdom of the body in the coaching conversation. Many coaches have not been trained to use the body as a resource for change. They would like to become more skilled in using body-centered skills - to move their clients to a greater depth of insight, self-awareness and self-acceptance.

On the call, Marlena will share with us the foundation of the Body-Centered Coaching Method and the enormous impact the method has on coaches and clients. She will share some client stories that demonstrate some of the techniques. She will lead a short exercise on being mindful and noticing your present moment experience.

Speaker: Dr. Ajay Nangalia ACC

Biography: Dr. Ajay Nangalia ACC, coaches corporate executives in India and Asia. He has over 25 years experience as a corporate executive, OD consultant and executive coach. His doctoral and current research interests focus on how executive coaches need to understand the cultural context of the society, and the organizations they work with. He is passionate about creating a global community of coaches who are sensitive to various cultures, and who can adapt to the cultural needs of their clients.

"Building Bridges - Why Coaches need to understand cultural differences"

Speaker Dr. Ajay Nangalia ACC

Linking to the themes of "Dreams and Visions", "Ignite the Flame of Passion for Change in your Community and pass it on, around the World"

My talk is integral to this theme because as coaches we want to be part of a global profession. However, many international coaches may assume that their training and approach which are effective in a Western social context are universally applicable. This is not true. Cultures in Asia are very different at an individual, community, and organizational level! As a global profession and community, coaches, especially from the West, must understand how they need to adapt their thinking and coaching process to suit their Asian clients. Only then can we truly create bridges across the world. Only then can we work as a community with a common passion, vision and dream.

Speaker: Jeanette Isaacs-Young ACC

Jeanette’s passion lies in helping people uncover their life’s purpose, and to live life ‘on purpose’. Everyone is busy with something, but our busy-ness is not always our passion, or connected with our abilities. Life’s purpose is according to ones underlying nature. What is that nature and how do we find it? For each of us there is an area of occupation that is stimulating and rewarding. But we are not always there. What liberation when we find the work that truly nourishes us, (and also pays the bills!).

Jeanette has three decades of experience as an Occupational Therapist, with a reputation as an educator with heart, a therapist who cares more than people expect, and as someone who treats all people with a consistent respect. She has at her disposal, a unique combination of skills and insights to share. People appreciate the calming influence they experience in her company, and the self confidence she inspires.

I am passionate about every career choice I have ever made. If I didn’t care deeply about what I was learning, doing and creating, I couldn’t pursue it. "Unlocking Your Potential for Change"

Based on the 4 step process created by Kegan/Lahey and described in their latest book ("Immunity to Change")

Pearl will coach us through the process that helps us look clearly at our commitments, and then look at what we are doing and what we are not doing that might be obstructing our ability to fulfill our commitments. The final stage surfaces the assumptions and beliefs that fuel the competing commitments, and then we work with a plan to take steps to test those beliefs and assumptions.

"It is a powerful model that I use A LOT with all of my clients and as I lead people through it I can take examples from the group, which will enable us to explore commonalities and differences. Where appropriate I can also share my own thoughts." Pearl Mattenson

Flame of Passion

What is it that makes coaches so passionate about coaching?

Is it the opportuntiy of persuading other people? Coaching skills are akin to Leadership and Sales skills. Certainly there are plenty of business coaches who offer their services.

Is it the opportunity of helping other people? Coaching skills are similar to therapy, concelling and other support services. And there are plenty of coaches who work with private individuals, families, non-profit organisations and schools.

Or, is it that coaches have realised how important and simple it is to access their Life Purpose, and want the same for other people too.

Maybe all of the above, and probably more!

I want to hear from coaches all around the world what makes them passionate about coaching, and to share this with others who are beginning to find what coaching is all about.

Speaker: Alan Wilson

Alan says, "I believe every child has limitless potential. It starts as a spark catching fire and needs to be identified, protected, nurtured, developed and respected. This spark must grow into a strong flame to survive the school system, parents under pressure and the influence of some peers.

My passion is to globally develop millions of children wholistically. I am achieving this by using my experience of life, coaching techniques and the laws of the Universe to empower children and the people that influence them. My vision is to create an ethos of empowerment around young people.

Together, we will fan the flames of self-esteem and confidence to explode the potential of the world's children."

"There is a real hunger for something different"

Linda Lea and Susan Moss

Linda and Susan will share their personal journey in taking coaching and leadership skills to rural areas of E. Africa and inner city schools in London working with young people of different faiths. They are at a crossroads in their work, and want to dialog with others about what seeds need to be planted to inspire young people to be the leaders of tomorrow. Our youth are the future, and they will meet life's challenges given direction and support. Linda and Susan want to move this work forward and need the insight and ideas of others.

They welcome all to join in and share the experience.

"Silken ties of love and thought"

with Bob Janes

working with connections and relationships

A Robert Frost quote that seems to capture the idea

She is as in a field a silken tent
At midday when the sunny summer breeze
Has dried the dew and all its ropes relent,
So that in guys it gently sways at ease,
And its supporting central cedar pole,
That is its pinnacle to heavenward
And signifies the sureness of the soul,
Seems to owe naught to any single cord,
But strictly held by none, is loosely bound
By countless silken ties of love and thought
To every thing on earth the compass round,
And only by one's going slightly taut
In the capriciousness of summer air
Is of the slightlest bondage made aware.

"Becoming where we came from"

Speaker: Anthony Rogers

All of us are creating in each moment ...

Creating our future from our past ...

And this is an important time in history to be deciding what we are creating.
Who we are becoming ...

So it is fitting that this call is rooted in Africa where countless human souls share a common ancestor. Way back in those times our forbears had no idea of where their offspring would arrive but no doubt would be amazed at all we have achieved.

And yet …… how do we move forward and embrace the possibility that we can make the right decisions?

On this call we will travel together to the far future, to the future selves of us that will live in many generations time. From that place we will ask……

* How to create a compelling sustainable future for us humans to prosper in for many millennia to come?
* How can we bring co-activity to every aspect of our lives?
* How can we be co-active with our environment?
* What do we want to tell ourselves about what is most important to us?
* What do we hope for?

Time and Date

If it's 9am in the UK...
what time is it in Australia?
and what time is it in America?

I was brought up in the UK, a country that is not only monolingual but also has a single timezone. For those of you who live in or were brought up in America or Australia for example, you may well be used to multiple timezones. Whilst planning this Global event I am frequently asked by Leaders, Speakers and Participants "What time is the conference?", and that's a challenge to answer, so I have prepared some sample times and dates.

Sample times and dates
The conference phone lines will open at 00:00 GMT, and close at 24:00 GMT on 9th September 2009

Blue = 10th September
Green = 9th September
Red = 8th September

10:00 14:00 18:00 22:00 02:00 06:00 10:00 Australia
12:00 16:00 20:00 24:00 04:00 08:00

24:00 04:00 08:00 12:00 16:00 20:00 24:00
UK
02:00 06:00 10:00 14:00 18:00 22:00

15:00 19:00 23:00
03:00 07:00 11:00 15:00
USA
17:00 21:00 01:00 05:00 09:00 13:00

In Australia (where the local time is GMT +10 hours for example), this means that the conference phone lines will
open at the local time 10:00 on 9th September and
close 10:00 on 10th September

In America (where the local time is GMT - 9 hours for example), this means that the conference lines will
open at the local time 15:00 on 8th September and
close at 15:00 on 9th September

I hope that helps!

Overlapping Time Zones

For planning convenience, the conference has been split into a number of time zones. The coaches who have volunteered to be local Leaders hold the conference for "their" time zone. At the end of each hour the Leader will hand over the baton (= microphone) to the next Leader. Do you feel ready to be a local Leader?
Contact us
at globalcoachconference@underandover.se

SpinZone overlap - passing on the baton
When two calls immediately follow each other, we shall allow 10 minutes for getting to know the names of coaches and projects in the other time zones, before the next time zone starts its own agenda.

TransZone overlap - breathing space
Where there is space in the planning we shall have a longer overlap, for up to an hour, to allow time for deeper and stronger connections to be made between the coaches and projects in other time zones, sharing Dreams and Visions.

On Call - 24 hours
The Global Coach Conference Team, based in Sweden, will be on call for 24 hours supporting the local Leaders.

The Global Conference Aims

There are many!

We have discussed the many aims of running a global conference, and I have noted here a few of the results that we expect and want to get out of this day. These aims are so rich that they deserve closer inspection. What's in them for YOU?
  • Awakening awareness of what coaching can do for people in business, education and many social and environmental projects around the world
  • Connecting coaches in an effective, invigorating and engaging manner
  • Creating a wave of consciousness around the globe
  • Linking many ongoing projects as well as inspiring new projects

Awakening awareness - for whom?
I am fairly sure that coaches are already aware of the benefits of coaching ... for people in business, education and many social and environmental projects around the world. And, for coaches it's always a boost to hear that the same benefits and opportunities for coaching are available around the globe, it hints at a potential global income. That might be something that will interest you?

So what about your potential clients? Do they know, in the same way that you do, what the benefits are? Would they be interested, or indeed persuaded, by hearing examples from the coaching community? Hearing it is not the same as reading about it. You have probably already reached those clients who are convinced by what they read (your handouts and website, for example). Together we will be creating a sound file that can be added to your sales tools. For your potential clients, hearing another coach talk about the benefits of coaching is not the same as hearing you talk about it. Perhaps you will get more and different clients this way?

Connecting coaches, why?
If there's one thing coaches LOVE, it's getting connected to other like-minded coaches. Perhaps it's because we are so spread out that maybe we don't meet and talk to enough coaches in our working day. And anyway, how many coaches is "enough"?

One of our aims is to connect coaches who have similar or complementary interests and goals. You probably have a web presence of some kind, and get some coach connections that way. We think that listening to, talking with and sharing with other coaches over the phone will aid the development of the kinds of connections that are important to you. For me, in the last two weeks since I started this Global Coach Conference I have made connections with a dozen great coaches and leaders, some of them will probably be lifelong connections.

Creating a wave of consciousness
There is something primal about a wave. What about a wave of flames, the Flames of Passion. We saw a kind of awakening ceremony, with people raising awareness of the benefits of coaching as the sun came up over the horizon.

We saw coaches in one time zone passing on their Flame of Passion to the coaches in the next time zone. This also became a passing of passion from one generation to the next as we expect there to be a mixture of older and younger coaches as well as more experienced and less experienced coaches on the conference call. This is an opportunity for co-creating what needs to be created.

Linking many projects
At the practical level, we can see that the success of some projects will inspire others to dare to start projects of their own. And the needs of ongoing projects can be met by those who hear the call. And who knows how many projects that can be combined and thus strengthened by synergy effect?

Being First
And not least of all, being the first around the globe, around the day, phone conference. I guess that no-one has done this before, (If you know someone who has organised an around the day, around the globe conference, let me know - I need support)

Co-Creation in action, a powerful meeting of minds

Part of the CoActive way of working is to co-create. The CoActive Social Education Niche contacted me to speak about the Global Coaches Conference, and we recorded our brainstorming discussion.

Listen to the recording, it's inspiring!
You can listen to or download the mp3 audio file from http://www.coactivenetwork.com/webx/.59bef405/

Introduction written by the "Social Action Niche"
Martin Richards has conceived of a “Global Co-Active Conference Day” on September 9, 2009 as a 24 hour conference call that wraps around the world with coaches checking in--time zone by time zone--sharing their visions and co-creating.

Phone Conference with the Social Action Niche

Some of the exciting ideas that came from the call

The Aims There are many!
  • being the first around the globe, around the day, phone conference

Communication Mechanics We want the coaches conference call to be accessible to as many people as possible, at a minimum cost. The easiest way is to use a free conference line. There is one in Sweden +46 (0)8 5000 5000. We decided to set a date to test the limits of this conference line! (Why not join us)

Coaches from different backgrounds We relish differences! We want the call to attract all coaches, not just CoActive coaches - even though this is where we started. Ya gotta start somewhere!

Overlapping Time Zones For convenience, the conference is split into a number of time zones. The leaders hold the conference for "their" time zone. At the end of each hour the leader will hand over the baton (= microphone) to the next leader. Why not spend 10 minutes getting to know the coaches and projects in the next time zone? There could be an brief overlap before the next time zone starts its own agenda.

Coaching Hours Bank We want to create a bank of coaching hours that can be used around the world. Participating coaches can donate any number of hours to the Global Conference and the Leaders can suggest projects people that we would support through our coaching.

Linking Themes We have an Olympic imagery going for us. Passing the call from person to person reminds us of the Olympic flame, and yes passing on the "Flame of Passion" is what we are about. We also had an idea that we could create a collaborative story, where the leaders would - towards the end of the hour - tell the story of the people, events and projects in the earlier time zones and add their own part to the story, so that the story would grow as we move around the world.

Environment A theme that we could support is work that focuses on creating an environment that we, and future generations can live in.

Generation We saw that coaching the younger generation would be a natural choice for us. This could be interpreted locally in many ways.

Key Speakers Of course every coach has their role to play, and some well-known coaches could play larger, bolder, more attractive roles. We are looking for key speakers who can lead or take part in discussions, or whom we can interview. This would attract coaches to listen in to the Conference Day, rather than choose any other option that may be available to them that day.

Clients Why not let clients speak too, about how their lives have changed through coaching perhaps.

Structures The calls can be structured in a variety of ways, we came up with a few

  • Interview with a Master Coach
  • Interview a local project leader
  • Discussion about a book (eg. "A Whole New Mind", Dan Pink)
  • Co-creation on a theme
  • Report on ongoing global and local project(s)
  • Inspiring music

And all this in one hour. This is a beautiful example of what great minds can achieve when they work together. Listen to the recording when it gets posted!
